Mastodon 6/3/2007: Manchester Academy

Setlist:(as best as I can remember it)

This Mortal Soil
The Wolf is Loose
Sleeping Giant
Crystal Skull
Iron Tusk
Carpillian Crest
Island
Aqua Dementia
Bladecatcher
Circle of Cysquatch
Colony of Birchmen
Blood and Thunder
Hearts Alive

Awesome gig, though as usual, no matter where we stood tall/broad shouldered people stood in front of us. I regret not taking my camera, as they don't search you at the Manchester Academy. Because of all the tall heads in front, I had to stand on tip toe a lot to see the band. I mostly saw the bass player and lead guitarist, with occasional glimpses of drummer and other guitarist. The music was awesome though. They sounded incredible, and Troy Sanders kept making whaley spouty gestures during Blood and Thunder and Hearts Alive. I love Mastodon. They read a lot. Their album Leviathan is based on Moby Dick, and lots of lyrics from Blood Mountain are quotes from Joseph Campbell's Hero with A Thousand Faces which i recently read as part of my dissertation research. Mmmm. bookworm metal men with sexay brains.

Apparently some douche pushed [livejournal.com profile] uglybuffy in the chest, but she got her retaliation in by kicking him, as did Spuddy, who sent him flying. Oh how I wish i could have seen it. [livejournal.com profile] uglybuffy also got eyed up at the bar by one of the band members, but she won't say which one. (bet it was one with a beard:P)

[livejournal.com profile] evillottie and I didn't stick around because we were hungry. Dammit I should have stayed. Ah well.

Oh and the support band aren't really worth mentioning. No, really.

My wolf is loose gig t shirt. I love the artwork on their albums:
