On Saturday I had a really fun day out in Camden with
wieselkind and
henzl who have both recently moved to London to study at UCL. I hadn't been to Camden in ages. There was a scary moment when we ventured into the newly refurbished Cyberdog because I wanted some hair dye, only to be bombarded with dance music and a giant dancing banana. I kid you not. I think the image is seared into my mind forever. Anyway, other than that it was an enjoyable day, and we had fun looking in all the unusual shops. In one of the shops
wieselkind called me over to look at a "mummified bird head." Curious, I went over to look. It was a cassowary skull necklace. With beads and everything. I have no idea where the shop had acquired it (it wasn't for sale just decoration), but I asked them if I could snap a photo and they agreed. Here's a drawing I did of it*:
I then decided to paint a living one in my large sketchbook.

The Mall Galleries Society of Wildlife Artists Exhibition is coming up soon. Last year I entered two pieces but neither or them were selected. I think I've improved a lot this year so I'll be trying again.
* I think the brown seeds are tamarind and the shells are some sort of cowries.
