I've been searching for an example of an artist who uses colours that could be construed as "drab" but uses them in a way that still looks fantastic, and recently, The New Yorker has done an article on Jean De Brunhoff's Babar! Perfect! Using colour this way is what I'm trying to do for Potoo, as he isn't the most colourful of birds, but Brunhoff uses colour sparingly, but in a way that still looks appealing.

Also part of the article is a slideshow, where you can view Brunhoff's original dummy for babar, and compare it with the published version.

As for me, haven't had much time for drawing, but I will this weekend. This is all I've had time to pop out:

And finally, today is International Talk Like  a Pirate day! Yaaar- here be an old etching.

Well I've not really started yet, but I will this weekend as I have lots of free time and am not planning on going anywhere. I love the way it's used sparingly, so when he does use a bright colour it jumps out at you.

Oh Babar.

I have a distinct association with Babar and the food chain Arby's. You could get Babar books with the kids meals. Yay!!

I loved the show and the illustrations. The maquette book is so great. *swoon*
