Guys, I'm going to work with scientists in the Entomology department. Before any of you go "but isn't that what you already do?" let me explain.

I'm going to do scientific illustration! I told Dan about the internship I was applying for and he said he would find some projects for me to do and that he would appreciate it because they need that sort of thing for papers etc. I don't know exactly what those projects will be yet but man, I'm excited!

Speaking of scientific illustration, the Images of Nature gallery opened today, and it's promoting both old and modern scientific illustration heavily. Here they are talking about one of my favorite images on display by Mark Russell.

Cool! That will be incredibly helpful.

Incidentally, Have you ever read Stephen Jay Gould's Wonderful Life? I love the black-and-white illustrations of the Burgess Shale critters in there...

It is teh awesome in so many ways. And it's kinda like a detective story, only the culprits are all ancient invertebrates :)

I hope you get things that bite. Or birds. Or birds that bite.

It will be entomology so things that bite are possible, but it won't be birds.

It looks like a combination of carbon dust and adding the colour in layers, but since there was no narration for the second half of the video I'm not sure.

I'm really glad they opened that gallery. I always felt science illustration wasn't given the recognition it deserved. Finally, it now is.
