Sepioloidea lineolata
May. 10th, 2010 09:40 pmHere is a little Striped Pajama Squid I drew last night in my new sketchbook. I love the yellow pages. I got it from the L. Cornelissen art shop.
kankurette is right, that place is like something out of a Harry Potter film.
S. Lineolata is a poisonous cephalopod, and is also known as the "Dumpling squid."
God I love this sketchbook. The paper is perfect. All you artists out there know what I mean, right? The hunt for the elusive "perfect sketchbook."

Iridescent paint
Apr. 2nd, 2010 07:54 pmMy first painting using iridescent acrylics. I then fiddled with the levels in photoshop to enhance the effect. This little guy is a Bobtail squid.
Also check out this cute series of animations for Animal Planet
ms_daisy_cutter sent me. There's a whole set if you click through to YouTube

I'm feeling happy today. Only 3 days of work then a 4 day weekend in which to draw!
I've been readings numerous papers on iridescence in nature, and am pumped to do some related art. I shall be purchasing a few tubes of these:

Also, drinks and general couch potatoing with
nadriel tonight and next week my Dad is in England! Yay!

Decorating
Jan. 3rd, 2010 01:15 pmHey
kankurette, your mum inspired me to decorate my flat. The wall stickies and lampshade are from Lush Lampshades in Greenwich. With the lights off and lamp on it looks kind of like a sunset. Finally got round to putting framed pictures up in the hallway too.
Today I'm off to the Lewisham Arthouse. I've lived here for about 6 months now and I still haven't looked at all the affordable studio space, galleries and grants open to local artists here. Today is a good time to start exploring.
BTW,
nadriel, how does Tuesday sound for Sherlock Holmes?

This morning's work
Dec. 10th, 2009 02:21 pmI'm pleased with today. I've accomplished a lot and it's only 2pm. Started solid work on a picture of a King Bird of Paradise:
And a close up:
So a strong start to a 4 day weekend, instead of previous days off where I've either been ill or uninspired. Earlier I made Mexican scrambled eggs with tomatoes, onions, chilies and sausages. I hadn't had a big breakfast in a while. Later I'll be meeting
fractalgeek and others to watch the Now Show being recorded.
Tomorrow I'll be meeting
velvetfur for some wandering around galleries and then Saturday I'm off to Nottingham for
wieselkind's German Christmas Party.
And a close up:

An art filled day
Mar. 14th, 2009 08:10 pmToday I went to the Movieum on the South Bank to see Curtis Jobling's exhibition. Writer Alan Gilbey has some photos of the event on his facebook.
Curtis has beautiful paintings for sale at the Movieum and the exhibition will be on for 4 weeks in the Animation Art Gallery. See it if you can!
I saw my old university lecturer Jim Walker there and lovely lady Liz. I tagged along with them for the afternoon and they took me to see the Rodchenko and Popova exhibition at the Tate. After seeing all the Russian poster art, I really want to mess around with bold colours and brown paper.

Shortly after the exhibition, we went to look in the Tate modern bookstore where I squeed at a book of Charley Harper's work. I'll have to save up for it, but I absolutely love his work, especially his stuff from the Golden book of Biology.

Plenty to inspire me, and I had a lovely day on the Southbank. ^^

Some art for once!
Feb. 3rd, 2007 01:26 amI just purchased this book from Amazon. It is instrumental in me finishing my Dissertation (which is on Character Design.)

Andy Hamilton's character from Mirrormask is sooo cute. Like a big hedgehog. I also find it amusing that its called a "Small Hairy."
On another note, I just realized the lighting in this film looks quite hellish. Perhaps I should study it for background inspiration. I suck at backgrounds.

This is going to be quite a long post with quite a few images...so bear that in mind if you're on a poor connection (I hate livejournal cuts..yes, I am mean.) Well the Old Harry's Game trailer is now underway with approval from mr. Hamilton himself (what a dude), so Here is a small bit of animation to start things off. By the way, if anyone is new to this, Old Harry's Game is a brilliant BBC radio 4 comedy set in hell.
http://home.btconnect.com/buckleburyweb/gina/images/splat.avi
Its only a few seconds long, but if it loops its hilarious.
Animation is still in its rough stages but I will post here as I go along, as well as with my other film The Unhuggables.
Here's some Hell concept art:
Minions:

They will carry thomas off kicking and screaming in the trailer...mwahaha.
Gary! (for weiselkind)

Prof

I got a small art book called, appropiately enough, "Devils". Had interesting devil art through the ages. I liked this one from a Spanish Tarot card:

Devils are so much fun to draw! Evil is attractive!
If anyone has ever coloured an animation in Photoshop, or knows of any tutorials deailing with this sort of thing please let me know. I'm okay so far, but my frames wobble a bit, and I find it hard to get the characters to seem solidly in one place. If this makes sense, please email me at jonaginas@yahoo.com
On a non-animation related topic...I now own Tool's new album: 10,000 days. Its awesome! Get it!
